October 3rd-7th

Writing:
This week we will work on writing good endings.  We will focus on ending that have a lesson that was learned, a hope, a humorous ending, or image created for the reader.  We will also work on using capital letters and ending marks correctly in our writing.  

Spelling:
We have started our phonics study this week with a program called Phonics Dance.  The kids love the dance moves that go along with the sounds.  This week we will work on -ew -oo and -ui.  


Reading:
We will start our reading groups and book clubs this week!!!! I am so excited to focus on specific skills that your kiddos need.  We will learn about Author's Purpose (persuade, inform, entertain) and discover when and why author's use these different types of writing.  


Math:
We will continue solving 2 digit math problems this week by using strategies such as number line and partial sums.  We will also decompose numbers to see what their value is.  Math homework is due on Wednesdays.  


Social Studies:
This week we will continue our study on good citizenship.  We will learn about US symbols and presidents.  On Tuesday your child will have a "secret service mission" that focuses on being a good citizen.  I am excited to see all of the neat things that your kiddos do in the community!


Reminders:

  • Sign up for Parent Conferences!  An email went out from Sign Up Genius.  They will be the week of Oct. 10th.
