October 11th-14th

Writing:
We will work through the writing process this week including helping each other to edit and revise our writing.  We will start learning the parts of a friendly letter and discuss what kinds of letters we can write people.  We will begin our first draft of a letter to a US veteran.

Spelling:
We have started our phonics study this week with a program called Phonics Dance.  The kids love the dance moves that go along with the sounds.  This week we will work on --ee --ea.

Reading:
We will work on recognizing the difference between main idea and topic while reading.  We will continue to work in our small groups with reading and reader's responses in our new reading notebooks.

Math:
We will continue solving 2 digit math problems this week by using all the strategies we have learned so far- draw a picture, number line, partial sums.  We will begin regrouping (carrying numbers) with 2 digit addition this week.  We are using CUBES to solve word problems.  It stands for C-circle they numbers, U- underline the question, B- box key words, E- eliminate any unnecessary info. S- does the answer make Sense.  We do CUBES on every word problem and it should be used on math homework too, if word problems are on it.  Math homework is due on Wednesdays.
