September 26th-30th

Writing:
We will continue writing using capital letters and ending marks in the appropriate way.  We will share our stories with friends in a "peer conference" model this week.  We will work on giving feedback to our buddy that is kind, specific, and helpful.  We will discuss the writing process and how we can make our writing "fancy".

Reading:
This week we will continue working on reading independently and reading with a buddy.  We will work on using reading strategies such as cluing in on hard to read words this week.  I am working diligently on assessing their reading so that we can begin book clubs and groups!

Spelling:
Words will come home on Monday.  Please practice during the week at home and we will continue to practice daily at school.  Any spelling homework that is written can be returned Friday. It is a good idea to practice giving your child an oral spelling test at home.  It is good practice for them to hear the sounds in the words.

Math:
This week we will finish up our number sense unit with a review on Monday and an assessment on Tuesday to see how well they understand the skills.  We have been working on number lines, ordering numbers, greater than/less than, expanded form, block form, and missing numbers for 3 digit numbers.  We will start our unit on 2 digit addition and subtraction towards the end of the week.

Science and Social Studies:
We will wrap up our unit on matter with a few activities on magnets such as magnet mazes and how we use them in everyday life.  Towards the end of the week we will start our citizenship unit and discuss timelines and good citizens in history.
