November 7th-11th

It is hard to believe that Thanksgiving is almost 2 weeks away! I hope that you are able to get out and enjoy this cooler weather this weekend.

Writing:
We are going to continue to write our nonfiction books that include text features such as a table of contents and captions.  We will also discuss the difference between fiction and nonfiction writing and what the author's purpose is for writing it.  We will conference about our writing and work on the goals we set for ourselves.   We are great authors!

Reading:
Our book clubs are running strong and we are really enjoying them.  We will work on different skills with each book while continuing to focus on fluency and comprehension.  We will focus on locating examples and reasons why the chapters are either nonfiction or fiction.

Spelling:
Spelling lists will come home on Monday and we will assess on Friday.  This week we will focus on magic-silent E on the end of the words.  The main thing to note is that it changes the vowel sound from a short sound to the long sound.

Math:
We will begin Geometry this week!  2 dimensional figures will be the place we begin.  We will locate the vertices and sides of shapes- up to 12 sided figures.  We will do some fun activities with building shapes and constructing shapes in more than one way.

Social Studies:
We will wrap up our Citizen unit with a final vote for our class president.  We will also have leadership roles as vice president, cabinet member, secret service, and senators.

Science:
We will jump back into science this week.  Types of energy such as light, heat, and sound will be the focus.  We will do some fun experiments to learn about each of these types of energy such as popping popcorn and playing with instruments.

Reminders:
Send in Box Tops
Library day is Tuesday
