December 5th-9th

Writing:
We will use writer's workshop to finish up our fiction/nonfiction books.  We are working on using capital letters, complete sentences, and spacing.  We will also read the Grinch Who Stole Christmas this week and write about what life skills the Grinch may need to help him be more kind.

Reading:
Media Literacy is our focus.  We will recognize different places that we see and hear media literacy.  We will distinguish between fact/opinion in the media and also whether or not it's print or video media literacy.  We are working hard to finish up our book clubs so we can present to the class what we have read about.

Spelling:
Please look for your child's words on Monday.  They will come in their green folder with their calendar.  We will work on them at school but reinforcing the phonics skill at home is very beneficial.  We will assess on Friday to see how well they master the phonics skills.

Math:
We will continue working with money this week and assess what we've learned mid-week.  This is a great skill that you can practice at home by simply counting coins.  Your child needs to recognize the coins and be able to make amounts from coins up to $1.00.  This is one of the hardest things to catch on to because cash is not a preferred method of payment these days.  Please practice at home!!!  Also, we will go back to review some skills that have been challenging this year.

Science:
Our Gnome bridges turned out awesome!  They had a blast getting creative, using teamwork, and helping the Gnomes out.  We will work on rocks this week.  We will observe the attributes of rocks and purposes of rocks.
